Prof. José Benítez-del-Castillo is Professor and Chairman of Ophthalmology at Complutense University of Madrid and Director of the Ocular Surface and Inflammation Unit at Hospital Universitario Clínico San Carlos in Madrid, Spain. He trained at the University of Cádiz, Spain and was awarded his PhD in 1992 from the Complutense University of Madrid.

Editor of the Spanish journal Archivos de la Sociedad Española de Oftalmología and Associate Editor of Ophthalmic Research, he is also Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Optometry and the Turkish and Polish Journal of Ophthalmology.

He covers several roles, among which the General Secretary of the European Dry Eye Society (EuDES) and Member of the Board of Directors, Vice-President of the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology (SSO) and Member of the Scientific Committee of the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS).

He is a reviewer for nine scientific journals and has published more than 250 papers, contributed to several books and presented more than 650 posters and oral presentations at international conferences.

Art Epstein

Art Epstein, OD

Arthur B. Epstein, OD, FAAO is a native New Yorker who grew up in the Bronx, NY. He received an O.D. degree from the State University of New York, State College of Optometry where he also was the college's first resident in ocular disease. After relocating to Phoenix, he co-founded Phoenix Eye Care, PLLC. He heads the practice’s Dry Eye - Ocular Surface Disease Center – The Dry Eye Center of Arizona, and serves as its Director of Clinical Research and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry.

Dr. Epstein is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Distinguished Practitioner of the National Academies of Practice. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry, a member of the American and Arizona Optometric Associations and Past-Chair of the AOA Contact Lens & Cornea Section. He has published numerous articles, scientific papers and book chapters and he is a Contributing Editor for Review of Optometry and founded, and serves as Chief Medical Editor of Optometric Physician™.

Dr. Epstein is a reviewer for numerous clinical and scientific journals including Cornea, Eye and Contact Lens. He has presented more than 1,250 lectures on a variety of topics including his renowned Dry Eye Masterclass series in more than 50 countries worldwide.

Connan Tam, OD

Mr Connan Tam gained his Batchelor of Science degree in Orthoptics from University of Liverpool and then went on to complete his Optometry degree at City, University of London. He is also certified as an Independent Prescriber.

He has over 10 years of experience in hospital eye care and has worked at several London hospitals including Great Ormond Street for Children and St Thomas’ Hospital.  

Connan is a director at Burnett Hodd & Tam Optometry and specialises in complex contact lens fitting, paediatric eye care, myopia control, binocular vision and of course dry eye.

He is the Managing Director of Dry Eye Centre in London. The centre has been delivering IPL treatment since 2014 and proud to be the first to adopt Lumenis Optima IPL for the treatment of dry eye in the UK.

Rolando Toyos

Rolando Toyos, MD

Rolando Toyos is the Medical Director and Founder of Toyos Clinic. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from The University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University. He then received his medical degree at the University of Illinois and completed his Ophthalmology residency at Northwestern University and Chicago Children's Hospital.

Dr. Toyos is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and specializes in Cataract Surgery, LASIK, Glaucoma, and Dry Eye and one of the most experienced surgeons in the country, completing over 35,000 cataract surgeries, 20,000 glaucoma laser treatments and 25,000 LASIK surgeries. He is also the inventor of the IPL procedure for Dry Eye Disease.

He has authored several papers and books, among which his newest book Dry Eye Disease Treatment.

Dr. Toyos is involved in the community. He won The Humanitarian Award by the Jazz Foundation of America for providing free surgical care to the displaced victims of Hurricane Katrina. He volunteers his time to Eye Care America, a national program that provides eye care to the poor. He has won several community awards including CEO of the Year Inside Memphis Business.
